Ways to Give

Supporting Madonna’s Mission

The Madonna Foundation celebrates the healing power of generosity. Our friends and donors empower our patients to return to their families, schools, jobs and communities at their highest possible level of independence. You can positively affect the lives of our patients and their families in a number of ways.

One-time Gift

You can make a one-time gift to the Madonna Foundation online; by phone 402-431-4777; by mail: 5401 South Street, Lincoln, NE  68506; or by making a wire transfer. Unless otherwise noted, gifts will be directed toward the annual Hope Appeal.

Recurring Monthly Gifts

The Madonna GEM program – Giving Every Month – makes it easy to support the mission of the Madonna Foundation by designating any amount to be automatically donated each month. You determine which area your donation impacts. Becoming a Madonna GEM is an easy, flexible and convenient way to give.

The Angel Wings Program

Maybe it was an encouraging word when you needed it most. Perhaps someone took the time to really listen to your concerns. Maybe you were inspired by the extraordinary level of compassion shown by a caregiver. If members of your care team or others at Madonna truly made a difference in your care or the care of your loved one at Madonna, we invite you to make a gift in their honor and nominate them for a Madonna Angel Wings Award.  Your gift will benefit patient services at Madonna so others may experience the same compassionate patient care.

Memorial Gifts

Memorial gifts are a wonderful way to celebrate the life and legacy of a loved one. If you wish to designate Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals as the beneficiary of your condolence, please contact us at 402-431-4777 or madonnafoundation2@madonna.org.

Suggested Language for Obituaries: In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals online at www.madonna.org/foundation/donate; by mail to: 5401 South Street, Lincoln, NE  68506, or by phone at (402) 431-4777

Matching Gifts

Your generous donation may be doubled or even tripled depending on your employer’s matching gift policy. This is an easy way to increase the impact of a personal contribution to Madonna.  Over 16,000 companies across the country are participants in matching gift programs.

Sponsor an Event

The Madonna Foundation produces a variety of events each year to raise money for patients, programs and research. These events would not be possible without the generous support of businesses, organizations and individuals like you. Unlike other traditional forms of advertising, event sponsorships allow organizations to be associated with important charitable causes like Madonna while reaching a desirable demographic of attendees. Sponsorship fees and benefits vary based on the size and scope of the event.  Please contact us at 402-431-4777 or madonnafoundation2@madonna.org to learn more.

Show your Support Today

Through the generosity of individuals, families, corporations, foundations, and organizations, thousands of children and adults with physical disabilities have been empowered to return to their homes and families.

Your Legacy: Planned Giving

A gift through your estate allows you to support Madonna without affecting your current financial situation. Making an estate gift can be as simple as adding three lines to your will. Many people discover that they are able to make a larger gift through their estate than they ever thought possible.

Bequests Through a Will or Codicil

An effective bequest is a simple way for you to carry out your long-term objectives of caring for family and benefiting Madonna.  A bequest through a will can provide a perpetual gift in support of the Madonna Foundation. There are three types of bequests to consider: 1) a specific bequest of cash or property; 2) a residuary bequest, which is fulfilled after certain family affairs are resolved; and 3) a contingent bequest, which is made when specifically designated conditions have been met. Please contact us at 402-431-4777 or email madonnafoundation2@madonna.org with questions.

Gift Annuity

You can give an irrevocable gift to Madonna of cash or securities while you and/or your beneficiaries receive fixed annual payments for life at a rate based on the age of the beneficiaries.

Gifts of Tangible Property

It is possible to contribute works of art, paintings, stamp and coin collections, rare books and documents, antiques, and other tangible personal property. The charitable deduction depends on the use the Foundation makes of the gift. In the case of the sale of property, the tax benefits depend upon the amount of time that elapses between the receipt and sale of the property.

Retirement Assets/Charitable IRA Rollover Gifts

You may be surprised to find that the value of your retirement plan has grown substantially and that the increased value can be used philanthropically. Now, you can put your required minimum distribution to good use, while also avoiding payment of income tax on the withdrawal or the excise tax penalty for skipping.

If you are 70 ½ or older, you can make direct, outright gifts from your IRA to the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals. Considered “Charitable IRA Rollover” or “Qualified Charitable Distribution” gifts, these transfers are easy for donors. Simply contact your IRA custodian to authorize your rollover gift, up to $100,000, to charity per year. If you are 73 or older, this gift may also qualify as your required minimum distribution. This type of contribution avoids paying income tax on the withdrawal from your IRA account, and therefore, is not eligible for a charitable gift deduction.

Distributions of up to $100,000 must be made directly from a traditional IRA account to the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals’ Foundation, i.e., the distribution cannot first be placed in a “donor-advised fund” or supporting organization. Also, gifts from 401(k), 403(b), SEP and other plans do not qualify.

Land

Land gifts are explicitly excluded from acceptance, except with Board approval.

Life Estate Contracts

If you have a personal residence or farm — preferably one on which there is no existing debt — you can transfer the deed to the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals’ Foundation and reserve the right to live on or use the property for your lifetime. You receive a tax benefit for the gift based upon your age and life expectancy. This is an irrevocable gift for which you will receive immediate recognition.

Stocks/Mutual Funds

A gift of appreciated stock may entitle you to an income tax charitable deduction for the fair market value of the stock on the effective date of the gift and also avoid capital gain tax. In many cases, it is more advantageous for you to donate the securities to a qualified organization than to sell the securities and donate the cash proceeds. However, we recommend that you consult your tax advisor for the best treatment considering your personal circumstances. Please contact the Foundation office at 402-431-4777 or email madonnafoundation2@madonna.org with questions.

Undivided Interest in Real Estate

You may have real estate for sale which has appreciated significantly in value — residential property, vacation property, farmland, or commercial property. Prior to the sale, you can donate undivided interest in the property to the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals’ Foundation.

Upon the sale of the property, Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals’ attorneys would attend the closing proceedings along with the majority owner. The title company will write a check to Madonna for their share of ownership in the property, and you will receive a charitable tax deduction for the current fair market value of the property given to the hospital (determined as of the date of the donation). No capital gains tax will be levied on the appreciated value of the property given to the school. Timing of the donation is crucial, and tax advice should be sought.

Equipment/Medical Supplies

Thank you for considering Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals for your equipment and supply donations. Madonna accepts a limited number of equipment and supply donations, which are in turn distributed and matched to outpatients or inpatients in need of these items.
