Adaptive Sports

ADAPTIVE SPORTS AND RECREATION COMPETITION

Madonna sponsors two wheelchair sports teams and offers tournaments throughout the year for adaptive sports including tennis, golf and wheelchair basketball.

Madonna Magic Wheelchair Basketball

The Madonna Magic team has been competing since 1996 and is a part of the Midwestern Conference of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association. The Madonna Magic competes against teams throughout the Midwest, including Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. Every Tuesday evening between October and March, the Madonna Magic practices at Madonna ProActive’s accessible gymnasium. Visitors are welcome to watch.

Madonna Match Points Wheelchair Tennis

The Madonna Match Points tennis team is made up of seasoned players as well as rookies. Madonna is a member of the US Tennis Association and works in collaboration with the Woods Tennis Center. They practice weekly at the Woods Tennis Center, and together we host the annual Lincoln Classic Wheelchair Tennis Tournament. Visitors are welcome to watch practice or tournament play.

ADAPTIVE SPORTS AND RECREATION OPEN RECREATION

Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital offers scheduled, weekly outings for inpatients, outpatients and community members to experience various types of sports and recreational activities. Details for open recreation outings that occur every Monday are on our event calendar.

Adaptive Fishing

Offered the first Monday of each month from June to October at Holmes Lake, 70th Street and Normal Blvd. You can experience fishing with Madonna’s Adaptive Sports and Recreation team. They will help participants learn or relearn to cast, reel and release from standing or wheelchair levels. Adaptive fishing poles are available.

Billiards

Offered the first Monday of each month from November to May at Calvert Recreation Center, 4500 Stockwell Street in Lincoln. Participants will learn or relearn basic skills for billiards, from a standing or wheelchair level. In addition to billiards, participants play shuffleboard, Ping-Pong or foosball. Adaptive techniques and equipment provided.

Tennis

Offered the second Monday of each month at the Woods Tennis Center, 33rd & J. Participants will learn basic skills and adaptations with a professional instructor provided by Woods Tennis Center. Standing or wheelchair-level participants work on ball/racquet forehand, backhand and volley drills.

Golf

Offered the third Monday of each month from April to October at Ager Golf Course, 3761 Normal Blvd. Participants will be able to utilize the driving range as well as the pitch and putting green. Participants will learn basic skills such as grip, swing and the use of adaptive clubs if needed for those using a wheelchair or adaptive golf cart. Instruction will be presented by a golf pro or Madonna personnel.

Bowling

Offered at Parkway Lanes, 2555 S. 48th Street. Participants will learn or relearn basic skills for bowling. Participants will have the opportunity to bowl standing or at wheelchair level. Adaptive bowling equipment provided. January-March: 3rd Monday of each month, April-December: 4th Monday of each month

Pickleball

Offered ProActive, 7111 Stephanie Ln, Lincoln, NE 68516 – participants will learn or re learn basic skills for pickle ball. Patients will have the opportunity to do activity in standing or at wheelchair level. January-March: 4th Monday of each month

Madonna offers affordable workshops to the community and its patients on various sports and recreational activities.

Adaptive Sports Fair

The purpose of this free event is to expose people to the various adaptive sports and recreational activities available in our community. With more than 15 interactive booths and activities, youth and adults are exposed to sports such as wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis, quad rugby, power soccer, fencing, golf, dance and much more.
